Maureen Donaldson was a post-teen when nearly 70-year-old Grant began courting her in Los Angeles. It was a generous courtship with him turning on the fabulous Cary Grant charm, being a fabulous companion, tempting her with glorious vacation trips, and being a great fellow when visiting her parents in Bristol. The affair lasted four years, as Maureen joined him in his endlessly-being-remodeled house, while taking up photography on his suggestion. There was a bit of Jekyll/Hyde split personality at times. He accused lover of stealing his toilet paper, and every roll in the house was inventoried! Cary was wall-to-wall bonkers about his little daughter, Jennifer, and haunted by his mother whose "abandonment" (while caused by his father) caused him to push away each woman he loved, before she could abandon him, which one by one each did. Donaldson also quashes the rumors that Grant might have been gay, as in most intimate portrait Cary Grant is all male, and spends as much time as he can in the bedroom with her. A thoughtful and thought-provoking portrait of the latter years of one of the screens most indelible icons.
